Techko Safe Pool Alarms: Common Questions

How do I install my pool alarm?

We have a page dedicated to helping you correctly install your alarm!

Check out our Installation Guide here.

This page also has a demo video compatible with models S187D, S189, and S287.

We also have user manuals for S187D, S189, and S287, which can be found here.

What’s the difference between each model: S187D, S189, and S287?

Each pool alarm model offers the same UL 2017-compliant features to keep your children safe around your pool. There are a few minor differences:

  1. S187D: Our tried-and-true bestselling pool alarm that's trusted by thousands of contractors and inspectors.
  2. S189: For a slimmer profile look
  3. S287: Features a high-visibility strobe light for additional safety.

Do the arrows on the magnets need to line up perfectly?

No, the arrows on the magnets do not need to line up perfectly. The alarm detects the magnetic field between the sensors, so as long as they are within a quarter-inch (1/4”) of each other it will work properly. The magnets can even be mounted perpendicular to each other.

The magnets are not sticking together, is that normal?

Yes, that’s normal! The magnets don’t need to clip together because it detects the magnetic field between the sensors, so as long they are within a quarter inch (1/4”) of each other it will work properly.

Can I use one alarm for multiple doors or windows?

Unfortunately, according to UL 2017 guidelines you will need one alarm per door/window.

Please note: the secondary magnetic sensor is designed to be a complementary sensor for sliding glass doors with screens. It does not function as a separate sensor.

For more information, please refer to the User Manual.

I’ve tried new batteries but the LED keeps blinking. What do I do?

A blinking LED means that the bypass has been activated, which will temporarily disable the alarm for 10 seconds. After that time has passed, the light should turn off and then re-arm the alarm.

When the unit actually has a low battery, the red LED indicator will remain on (not blinking).

The secondary bypass button isn’t working. How do I fix it?

It’s possible that the secondary bypass button is plugged into the wrong port on the bottom. Please double check that it is plugged into the correct port.

For more information, please refer to the User Manual.

Can I get a UL 2017 Certificate?

Yes, please fill out the form on our Contact Us page to request a UL 2017 certificate.

Please note: our certification is from ETL, which is a separate third party that is recognized by UL, showing that our alarms are tested based on UL 2017 rigor & standards.

Do you have ASTM certification?

No, our pool alarms do not have ASTM certification. ASTM regulations specifically address water-surface/floating pool alarms, while UL 2017 regulations address entry points to the pool.

Is there a way to permanently disable the alarm?

Unfortunately, there’s no setting or method of bypassing the alarm altogether to stay off. This is due to the regulatory requirements of UL 2017 and Child Safety Laws. If we were to design a permanent bypass, then the alarm would no longer fulfill those regulations.

Outdoor Solar Lights: Common Questions

Do the solar lights charge on cloudy days?

Yes, they do! Our solar panels charge based on exposure to UV rays. Since there is still some sunlight even on a cloudy day, our solar lights will continue to charge. However, it may not recharge as much compared to a clear, sunny day.

Will solar lights survive a storm or blizzard?

Most of our solar lights have an IP65 Waterproof Rating, which means that they are rated for moderate rain & snow. For more inclement weather, the solar lights should be moved indoors for storage until the weather has passed.

Warranties do not cover usage in extreme weather conditions, which include storms, hurricanes, and blizzards.

Where should I place my solar lights?

We recommend placing the solar lights in an area that gets plenty of sun exposure throughout the day (at least 6 hours per day). You can also use a Sun Tracker app that can show you the path of the sun in your backyard or garden.

My lights stopped lighting up at night, what should I do?

Before contacting us, here are some troubleshooting steps that we recommend trying first:

  1. Clean the panels: Sometimes dust/debris can build up on the panels over time. We recommend taking a slightly damp cloth and wiping the solar panels. To extend the longevity of your lights, we recommend doing this once a month.
  2. Move the lights: We recommend placing the solar lights in an area that gets plenty of sun exposure throughout the day (at least 6 hours per day). You can also use a Sun Tracker app that can show you the path of the sun in your backyard or garden.
  3. Pro Tip: To verify that the unit will turn on at night, you can either press the power button in a dark room (to simulate night), or you can cover the solar panel where the daylight sensor is. (The easiest way is to just rest the solar panel against your body).

How do I replace the batteries on my solar light?

The batteries on our solar lights are fully integrated into the housing to shield it from the elements, so unfortunately, they cannot be replaced. However, the batteries are designed to last through multiple seasons (up to 3 years) to maximize longevity of the lights.
